SECTIONS OF ACADEMIC WRITING:

Normally, any academic piece of writing is presented in a number of parts as noted adjacent.  The following section provides additional details for each part.

TITLE PAGE:

Any piece of writing needs a title and a title page. A typical title page for any piece of writing  – essay, report, dissertation - will include the following:

• title (what)
• author and/or student number (who by)
• lecturer/name of unit (who for)
• date (usually month and year e.g. December 2001)
• name of institution (e.g. London South Bank University, London)
