REFLECTIVE:

Reflective writing is another element commonly found in descriptive writing. It can be summarised into:

  • experience
  • analysis and performance evaluation
  • reflection (drawing lessons from).

For example, if you were asked to write reflectively on your experiences at university during your first year, you might develop your writing as follows:

  • note down your feelings and problems during the year
  • write down the options/alternatives you had
  • record how you dealt with each problem
  • state what lessons you learned from the experiences
  • evaluate your progress towards achieving your study aims.
