ADAPTIVE LEARNING

You may of course, have different learning styles for different subjects - for example those that interest you and those that you find boring or difficult to understand. In addition, the presentation style of the lecturer may influence how you study. So why not adapt the course to suit the way you want to work.

For example:

  • If you prefer to feel in charge of your own learning or like a more open style of learning:
    • Set your own learning agenda, using the Unit Guide to help you plan.
    • Use the lectures to supplement and support your own studies of the subject from the recommended texts
    • Don't underestimate the time this 'self-learning' will take - but if you plan it into your schedule, then it can work.
  • If you prefer to work with others, then organise your own 'study group'.
  • If you work better by listening to things a second or third time, then tape the lectures but remember you will   need time to listen to them. How about when you are travelling by bus or train? (Don't try to listen when driving yourself - you cannot concentrate on your driving and the lecture!).

Whatever your best method of working, try to adapt the learning to suit you; after all, as a student in Higher Education, you are responsible for your own learning and development.
