Of course you can listen, many people can. But it is no good sitting back and relaxing hoping that you will 'soak up' the information. To get the most out of the lecture you have to 'actively' listen.
But what is 'active listening' how do you do it?
Active listening is thinking about and analysing the information as you hear it and then summarising it with a word or phrase. Analysing is about asking yourself questions as you listen to the lecture. Questions such as:
And no, active listening is not easy; it is very tiring; and very easy to lose concentration but it does get easier with practice, especially if you look out for 'keywords' and 'signposts'.
