There are three stages to listening to lectures and making good lecture notes and the first point starts before you even get into the lecture. I need also to point out here that the emphasis is on 'making' not just 'taking' notes. Don't try to write down everything the lecturer says – firstly you won't manage it – secondly this will only postpone the task of converting the information into a set of notes. Recording the lecture is no better – when are you going to find the time to listen to the lecture again?
So do the job right first time and follow the three stages:
