Business and Management

Undergraduate Programme for International Visiting Students

Academic Year 2012/2013

Information for Applicants

This site is for students who want to study for one or two semesters at London South Bank University. It includes a provisional list of modules available in the Faculty of Business as well as semester dates and contact details.

Option Choices and Learning Agreements:

All London South Bank students take 3 or 4 modules in each semester:

  • Foundation Year (Pre-Degree Level) - 3 modules
  • Year 1 (Level 4) - 3 or 4 modules
  • Year 2 (Level 5) - 3 modules
  • Year 3 (Final Year, Level 6) - 4 modules

You may choose the appropriate number of modules from the lists provided.
This will normally include one English Language module.

The level ofmodules you may attend will depend upon your previous studies and your level of English. We will send you an English test to establish the right level of study at LSBU. This may be lower than the level you have reached at your home university.

Option Choice Forms and further information will be sent to applicants one month before the start of the semester. Please note that option choices are provisional since timetables need to be checked during the induction in London. Learning Agreements can therefore not be finalised before the date of enrolment.

ECTS and Assessment:

Each semester has a total of 30 ECTS credits and consists of 3 or 4 modules depending on the credit rating of each module, i.e. 5, 7.5 or 10 ECTS as shown in the list of modules.

Each module includes lectures and seminars amounting to 2, 3 or 4 hours per week.

Assessment is based on coursework (essays and seminar presentations) and a formal written examination at the end of the semester. We will send you a full transcript of results after completion of the examinations.

Semester Dates:

The academic year starts in September and ends in June. Each year is divided into Semester 1 (Autumn/Winter) and Semester 2 (Spring/Summer). E.g. 'Level 5 Semester 1' refers to the Autumn/Winter-Semester of year 2.

The semester dates for 2012/13 are as follows:

            Semester 1:  24 Sep 2012 – 25 Jan 2013

            (Christmas vacation 17 Dec - 4 Jan)

            Semester 2:  28 Jan 2013 – 7 Jun 2013

            (Easter vacation 25 Mar - 12 Apr)

Please note that these are actual dates of attendance. They include the date when lectures start and the last date of the examinations. Examinations must be taken at LSBU and cannot be moved to different dates or taken abroad.

There will be induction meetings before the start of each semester. You should therefore plan to arrive on

            13 September 2012 for semester 1 and

            25 January 2013 for semester 2

to allow time for enrolment and induction meetings.

Fees:

The fee in 2012/13 for EU students will be £2160 per semester for a maximum of 30 ECTS credits (i.e. 3 or 4 modules).
