Postgraduate Semester in International Business and Management

Study Programme for International Visiting Students

Academic Year 2012/2013

Information for Applicants

This site includes a provisional list of modules available in the Faculty of Business. You have a choice between a prescribed course (fixed programme) leading to a Postgraduate Certificate or a flexible course (free choice of modules) leading to a Business Faculty Certificate.

Please state in your application which of the following courses you wish to study:

Option 1: Postgraduate Certificate

Students who are proficient in English and are aiming for a Postgraduate Certificate in a specialised subject area may apply for the first semester of one of the Masters courses listed below. After successful completion of 3 or 4 business or management modules, with a total of 30 ECTS points, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in the subject.

Option 2: Business Faculty Certificate

Students whose priority is to improve their English and who do not wish to pursue a specialist postgraduate course may opt for a free choice of modules from any of the Masters courses listed below. You may apply for semester 1 or semester 2.
You can select 3 or 4 modules with a maximum of 30 ECTS credits. This may include one English Language module.
Option Choice Forms and further information will be sent to you one month before the start of the semester.
Please note that option choices are provisional since timetables need to be checked during the induction in London.

ECTS and Assessment:

Each module counts for 10 or 5 ECTS credits and amounts to 4 or 2 hours per week divided into lectures and seminars.

Assessment consists of coursework (essays and seminar presentations) and a formal written examination at the end of the semester. We will send you a full transcript of results after completion of the examinations.

Semester Dates:

Please note that entry to this programme is normally in Semester 1 (i.e. September start) and Semester 2 is for continuing students. Entry to Semester 2 (i.e. January start) may be considered in special cases, but university accommodation may not be available. Please contact Jo Kahl by email before submitting a Semester 2 application.

Semester 1: 24 Sep 2012 – 25 Jan 2013 (Christmas vacation 17 Dec - 4 Jan)

Semester 2: 28 Jan 2013 – 7 Jun 2013 (Easter vacation 25 Mar - 12 Apr)

The above dates are actual dates of attendance. They include the date when lectures start and the last date of the examinations. Examinations must be taken at LSBU and cannot be moved to different dates or taken abroad.

There will be induction meetings before the start of the semester. You should therefore plan to arrive early on:

13 September 2012 for Semester 1 and

25 January 2013 for Semester 2

To allow time for enrolment and induction meetings.

Fees:

The fee in 2012/13 for EU students will be £2160 per semester for option 1 and £2400 for option 2 courses. This applies to a maximum of 30 ECTS credits (i.e. 3 or 4 modules).
